Position Description

My client is an Investment Bank with global presence. They are looking for an Executive Director/Managing Director-level senior technologist to drive the transformation of the next generation trading systems. This role will manage a distributed team of over 100 developers, and direct a 5-year investment programme in the amount of tens of millions USD per annum. This is a rare opportunity to work on a technology driven project with the goal of significantly influencing and affecting the entire business of an established and successful firm.
The ideal candidate is motivated by technology challenges and excels in 4 areas of competencies required of senior technology leaders: technical acumen; building and motivating a strong team; engagement with business stakeholders, and overseeing a tight software development lifecycle that delivers quality systems. In effect, someone who will find the correct solution to a problem when left on their own because they like to solve problems well. At the same time, they should work well in teams, as a contributor and/or leader. Communication and clarity are critical as decisions made will have long lasting and significant effects on a critical global initiative.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
  • Build a strong technical team – hire the best programmers and grow a center of excellence for the bank.
  • Establish a technical and business product road-map for OMS, EMS, Connectivity, Algo Trading systems, pricing systems, risk management systems for exchange-traded products. Establish design principles and design frameworks, introduce new technologies, develop prototypes, guide rest of technology on adoption.
  • Oversee a software development lifecycle of mission critical components:
  • Providing strategic solutions to fulfil general business needs.
  • Guide development to satisfy capacity, performance, and resilience demands of the trading business.
  • Resolving operational issues and implement preventative measures
  • Proven experience delivering trading systems projects – integrating components such as core OMS, algo strategies, dark pools, exchange connectivity, pricing, risk management and market data feeds.
  • Working experience with entire trade cycle of various equities business: high-touch, program trading, electronic trading, block trading, client facilitation, proprietary trading, and error trade management.
  • Deep understanding of technical architecture – particularly latency sensitive, high-frequency, high-volume execution systems.
  • Seasoned operator within Asia equities, with understanding the markets and regulatory environments.
  • Articulate, team player, and yet project gravitas. Able to contribute to and command presence in large meetings.
  • Build relationships at senior levels.
